La cena de los idiotas (Le Dîner de cons) by Francis Veber was premiered in 1993 at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris. In 1998, the author himself adapted and directed the film version, which won 3 César Awards. In 2010, the American version (Dinner for Schmucks) was released, with less success than the original.

La cena de los idiotas premiered in Spain in 2001 at the Teatro Infanta Isabel. The Pentación production was adapted and directed by Paco Mir. In 2010, the current version, directed by Josema Yuste, premiered on the same stage.

Carlos meets for dinner every Tuesday with his friends, important businessmen, where they always invite an "idiot" with the sole aim of making fun of him. But tonight they have invited Francisco Piñón to the soirée and everything will turn out the wrong way round. .... Francis Veber's great theatrical success returns to the stage, starring Juanra Bonet, Agustín Jiménez, David Fernández, Esther del Prado, Alberto Chaves and Irene Hernández under the direction of Josema Yuste. Francis Veber's La cena de los idiotas has become one of the classics of contemporary humour and has been performed with great success on stages all over the world. Every Wednesday, a group of friends organise a dinner party to which each of them has to go with what they consider to be an idiot.

The situations that occur during the plot call into question who is the bigger idiot, the hosts or the guests.

It is, after all, a critique of a society in which the habit of laughing at others seems commonplace and logical.
